Meditation
Life is fluid by nature—even on the days that feel stuck.
Living means change. And through meditation, we can come to know ourselves. It’s a space to quiet the noise, even if some days all we do is breathe. Some days, thoughts bounce around like scattered marbles. Some days, we feel our bodies from the inside out. Some days, we sink deep into yoga nidra. Some days, we do it all. Some days, we just breathe.
I love meditation. It gives me space—expansive, unbounded. My breath feels deeper, fuller, freer. Life has a way of pulling us away from ourselves, of cluttering our minds. Meditation brings us back. It doesn’t fix everything, but it offers insight, awareness, balance. It softens the jagged edges. That said, it isn’t always peaceful. There aren’t always silver linings. Sometimes, it’s uncomfortable. Because what’s the good of insight if it leaves us feeling stuck? But when we give ourselves time, space, and compassion, even the trickier emotions can move. And in that movement, we make space for presence.
* for the record, I don't believe any emotions are good or bad, they just are. it's what we learn and understand from them that is the real point.

My approach
Life is incessant and it can be relentless. Sometimes we are so busy doing life that we forget to experience life, to know us and our place in it all. I believe meditation gives us a better understanding of who we really are beyond all the crap and nonsense that can up all the time and space. It's not just the connection to the self; by simply breathing properly, we are getting full, oxygenating breaths, we're quelling our vagus nerve (the nerve responsible for the fight/flight/freeze response). We are also improving our sleep, boosting our immune function and generally feeling better when we’re not numb, or dulled, or scrabbling around trying to figure out the unreachable. From this, what we find is strength & vulnerability, centredness, balance & resilience. For something so simple, its effect is profound.
Because life is relentless. We’re so busy doing life that we forget to experience it - to know ourselves, our place in it all. Meditation clears the noise. It connects us to something beyond the daily grind, beyond the nonsense that eats up space and time. But it’s not just about self-connection - when we breathe deeply, we activate the vagus nerve, shifting our nervous system out of fight-or-flight. We sleep better, our immune function improves, and we feel better - not dulled, not scrambling, but steady. From this, we find resilience, balance, vulnerability, and strength. For something so simple, its effect is profound.
I don’t follow a specific school of thought, religion, or philosophy when it comes to meditation. It’s personal, fluid, and organic. My own practice has been shaped by Daoism and Buddhism, though I am neither. I value the insights science offers, and I share them. But let’s be clear - you can read all the books, all the studies, all the ‘expert’ takes on meditation, and that’s great. But none of it matters unless you actually practice it for yourself.
The foundation of my practice is the breath - because the breath is the bridge between our thoughts and everything else. It brings us back to ourselves. From there, we go where we go. Loving-kindness, gratitude, body awareness, visualization, Nidra, silence - meditation is a world unto itself, and it’s yours to explore.
And as for experts? No one is one. Doesn’t matter how long or often you meditate - some are just more practiced than others.
