About Susan

A bit about me as a person

By nature, I am a happy, confident introvert who can talk too much when nervous and can be a little blunt on occasion. I have found that when the world became so online, everything became even more immediate meaning the space and time to just think, let something brew and percolate seemed to slip away and somehow was replaced by a knee jerk of immediacy. A natural consequence of isolation and restricted mingling I think. And yet it also offered such time to think that could also frazzle a person. There’s something that I find deeply fulfilling about my work as a bodywork therapist that allows a feeling of wholeness (not just in-my-headness). It’s not just the technical approach to anatomy and physiology, though I do love finding a new way to work with the stubborn tightness and knots, but its the feeling of release and space that comes into the therapy room that feels wonderful, if a little tricky to explain.

I have a strong understanding of how the body works, both anatomically, physiologically and somatically (how we express our feelings through our body). I think my gift is being able to bring that all together into a whole.

I have spent years mastering my craft both through hands on and academic studies (I was fortunate to have an excellent University close to home where I gained a BSc (hons) In Medical Anthropology (Durham) along with postgrad studies at Edinburgh and Abertay in psychological therapies) which has led to my vast range of skills and applications.

A last bit

Beyond the professional life, I love my lovely family fiercely, dearly, deeply. I am a carer to my beautiful adult son. And my family includes my non-humans.  If you follow me on Instagram, you will see more pictures of dogs, cats and sunsets as a rule (but that’s grand, I reckon).

Hello! I’m pleased you’ve made it this far, nudging the edges of your curiosity to get an insight into who I am and a little of what I’m about.

I am an empathetic, compassionate, intuitive practitioner. I’ve spent years and years mastering my craft. I care about people and the world that we live in a lot. I hold true the values that people matter a heck of a lot more than just pounds and pennies, and I’m glad that I’m able to be of benefit to this world in my own unique way. I want to make the world a better place, in my own way, in the best way I can.

I am still learning.  I will always be learning. There’s a lot to learn. More than this lifetime, that’s for sure.

All of this learning has taken me down a merry path of all things body & wellbeing, whether it’s the culture we live in or the way we move, even though they’re not mutually exclusive. Looking at all the simplicities, the complexities and the nuance, ah, it fills me right up and I love to look at how the sum of all things affects the whole. Therapeutic practice is perfect for this. I have been a practising remedial massage therapist for quite some time, working in established private clinics and wellbeing centre, retreats, freelance and third sector organisations - wellbeing is the right of. us all - and I love what I do. Like I really love what I do, there’s something beautifully complex and simple about it all. Therapeutically I have practiced for aeons and all over. As an astrologer, I am largely self-taught, although I have attended many (many!) workshops and read a vast array of literature. I have recently studied with Kepler College, an outstanding institution where I have learned much and synthesised the last 20+ years of study.
